  3. Right on Anon. I worked at Timex from 1980-84. Closed shop, bully boy unions who would go on strike for anything. Dundee had an enormous engineering workforce, and these union tw*ts are the reason that no one will invest in Dundee anymore. Won my arse!

  4. I can remember Ernie Ross was one of the Timex Trade Union guys back in the early (no work getting done) 80's. I think they were referred to as militants?!

  5. anon etc. I think youll find that nobody will invest in dundee because the third world is much more profitable, not denying that there weren't some complete arses involved in the union movement but they only got into positions of power(sic) through the complacency of 'normal' members. Now where did I leave that soapbox? probably in Michelin :~)

  6. A name I can recall from those late 70's/early 80's is TASS, one of the Unions with more than just a hint of a "nod" to their Russian comrades.
Those same comrades may very well be wealthy capitalists now with a high standard of living!
If you can't beat them, join them!

  7. Getting older and looking back. Served my toolmaking apprenticeship with Timex between 1978 and 1982. While an apprentice, entered the CRATFEX competition in Milling (Dave Winters as Mentor), Rob Clarkson was on Turning and Mr Cassidy (pictured) was on Jig Work. Now live in the south but am indebted to Timex, the people within and the training received. If there are any reunions, would love to attend.
