DUNSINANE INDUSTRIAL ESTATE

A shot of the Dunsinane Industrial Estate area taken in the early/mid 80's.
Not much remains of it these days, but in the 60's, 70's & 80's, it was a busy place with factories belonging to the likes of Ferranti - Timex - Wright - NCR - Levi and a few others.
If you click onto the image and view the large version, you will also spot a few nearby football pitches, schools etc.

  3. I think that's maybe Carolina Port, which was demolished about that time.

  4. The NCR pitch was one of the best if not thee best susface to play on in the city. When Co- Co was manager of the dees apparentley (and i have this from a very good source, someone who shall remain nameless but played for DFC at the time) said last one to hide behind a tree gets an extra session,as the bemused players looked at each other they realised he wasn`t kidding as he f`d off with his golf clubs.I remember being at Ibrox as well when our friend Dave Smith led theDees out to what he thought was a massive dundee support not realising the Huns fans were celebrating the Arabs half time result over the tims.A clown indeed, but hey he signed Wesley Saunders.

  5. The sad thing about this photo is of course the number of factories etc. and consequently the number of jobs which no longer exist. Dundee represents much of Britain now - a place where it seems we no longer produce anything- just service industries. Little wonder then that the population of Dundee has shrunk from 185,000 in my youth to the 140,000 or so of today.

  6. Yeah the big white building on the right of the cranes is Carolina Power Station. I reckon this picture was taken after 1984 as The Power Station's chimney was imploded in the summer of 1984 and the Power Station itself was finally demolished in 1986

  7. Yes, it does look like a power station. Jeez, that must have looked awful on the waterfront. Like those 2 oil rigs parked up there at the moment. Funny thing is I cannot for the life of remember that power station being there...
