ORIGINAL HULLTOON HUNS GRAFFITI

This fine old-school masterpiece was done using the ancient technique of "paint pot & brush"!
It dates back to the 70's, so it is an original from the gang wars era.
Actually, that should read was an original, we now need to talk about it in the past tense, because despite it having been there all that time, last year somebody came along and graffed over the top of it.
Tut tut..!!
Thanks to JG

  1. where was this painted again? i remember seeing it loads of times, i recall the thunderbirds one on the gussie wall, that was probably an even earlier one, might have not been a dundonian who did it tho considering one of the others was king billy :0)

  5. spot on Alex, if one were to be visiting the Verdant Works tourist hotspot and had finished ones tour, as you do, on leaving the premises turn left towards the Hawkhill, and there before you (assuming no cars/vans hindering your view) is the daubbing over on the opposite side of the road(wynd) on the north face of the building whos frontage is on Brook st, and is only a short walk from the Rep where there is a well appointed resturant with two bars. sorry I'm over enthusing

  7. As a non-Dundonian, how many of the scheme gangs were affiliated to either football club or did football not come into it?

  8. The Hilltoon lads certainly followed Dundee at the time and also you have to remember that Utd hadn't any success until the late 70's, so no gangs were present in their support until later.

  9. I think Dundee gangs were pretty mixed on the teams they supported although I do remember a healthy Hulltoon mob attached to the dees during the mid / late 70's. Always thought Fintry Shams were more united but knew a good few Derry boys from Fintry so prob not true.

  10. it was pretty mixed, but when together they were the mighty " SHIMMY" a 60's/70's version of the utility, put the fear of death into the weedgies like :)

  11. The Shimmy were made up of mods and early skinheads who were a city wide gang that followed United.

Fae my memories of the 70s most scheme gangs were mixed with hulltoon huns and lochee fleet being more dundee fans and kirkton huns and fintry shams being more united
