CITY CENTRE POINT DUTY - EARLY 60'S

This is policewoman, Sarah Christie, on point duty at the junction of Nethergate & Union Street in the early 60's.
I can remember the police in the 60's directing the traffic at Arbroath Road/Princes Street crossroads and Seagate/Commercial Street junction, so I'm guessing these were occasions when the traffic lights weren't working. Or unless it was before traffic lights were introduced?!!
So just as Sarah brings the traffic to a halt, it's time for me too to put the brakes on the present car topic that's been running the past few days and prepare for a different kind of trip - a journey back in time to the terminus of Dundee's music scene!

  2. The only way that some of the female bobbies I've seen waddling round Dundee are 5'5, is round the waist. Some of them are midgets and remind me of Weebles.

  5. Sorry could not be done for sizeist-I was one of Taysides finest and raised myself(standing on raised balls of feet) to meet the minimum requirement when I joined in the 80's. i was the subject of many forms of ridicule,ie uniforms from mothercare, tripping over baton pocket within trousers etc...its was taken in good part, but nowadays it would be described as bullying, discrimination,"sizeist" (as you sugggetsed)...bottom line-get a life and get on with it,they are petrified within the job about giving colleagues nicknames....there were always good ones ie "EH'LL TACKIT"-he was an enthusiastic volunteer to accept a call,"THE JOINER"- because he joined anything that was going,"THE BOX CAT"- who never left the office,"THE OLYMPIC TORCH"-similar to the previous,he never went out,"JESUS FANTA"- a reformed alcoholic who found religon,"THE EQUALISER"-because he spoke like Edward Woodward, but in reality was useless(if you lived in Kirkton, you know who he is) "BABY FACE " and "THE MOTH"-again if you lived in Kirkton in the 80's you might remember them...the moth could not do anything about his acne!"SERGEANT SIGNAL"- the tube with the stripes....there are probably a lot more, but being frightened by diversity training has caused a lot of fertile minds to err overly on the side of caution.....does anyone remember anymore?
