JJ RECORDS - UNION STREET - 1984

JJ Records was a rather short-lived little independent record shop that opened for business around 1983/84.
It was located in Union Street and was run by Jim Stewart, ex Bruce's manager.
I also have a memory of Rob Adams from Forbes working there too alongside Jim, but not sure if he was there full-time or if he was just helping out temporarily.
I remember buying quite a few records from here as well as getting tickets for gigs and such like.
Don't recall how long exactly the shop lasted but I don't think it went beyond the mid 80's.
The photo above was taken in 1984, when the shop was in its prime.

  1. Remember being the only public in shop one Saturday. i was a heavy rock lad but wa stakes by the intro of the newly released ‘This Charming Man.’ The12 inch picture sleeve was on display. May have also been the day that Mr Stewart was playing Frankie’s ‘Relax’ on promo. It was certainly the place I heard it first way before anywhere else played or aired it. Also missed the last ticket for Simple Minds ‘ Sparkle’ Tour from the Caird Hall Box Office by five minute because I was hanging around the shop listening. Remember getting the ‘Waterfront; and ‘Undercover of the Night’ 12s.
