FOOD FUN - 66/77/88

The Bamboo in Reform Street was a fairly early example of a Chinese Restaurant in Dundee.
This advert for the Christmas period is dated December 1966.
It reminds me of a cartoon I once did of a panda leaving a Chinese take-away carrying a bundle of bamboo leaves under its arm..!!
Talking of food fun, this is a great name for a bistro - The Tuck Inn.
It was doing the biz along Seagate in March 1977, which is the date of the ad.
Lastly, an advert for a new food & drink spot that opened in Commercial Street in November 1988 - Cafe Royale.
I'm guessing that because the ad has flags, their food would be of a high standard..!!

SQUARE PEG & TRUFFELS CAFE - MID 80'S

Here's an interesting article about how the Square Peg cafe in Constitution Road came to be.
Started up in 1984 by 4 gals - Audrey, Joan, Dorothy & Lynne.
I'll let you read all about it yourselves rather than me put up a lengthy caption.
What the article doesn't have is that the cafe lasted roughly 2 ½ years, then in 1986 it was transformed into a cafe called Truffels.
And that's Truffels with the wrong spelling.
Owner, Jeanette French, was informed of the incorrect spelling but decided to just keep it as it was.
Opening day was on 4th August 86.

DEEP SEA CHANGE OF LOCATION - 1986

These 3 ads confirm the moment when the Deep Sea closed their restaurant in the Nethergate and then reopened across the road in the Nethergate.
The first ad announces the closure of their 134a Nethergate spot on 15 August 1986.
The second ad is a notice stating the new Deep Sea restaurant at 81 Nethergate will start biz from 17 August 1986.
The last ad is a message from new owners Raymond & Lawrence Sterpaio highlighting the old Deep Sea is officially closed and thank previous owners, Romano & Evelyn Biondi.
