STOUTS IN MARKETGAIT - 80'S

Stout Brothers garage & showroom was in the Marketgait in the 80's and the above items date from then.
The advert is from January 1988 and is basically letting it be known that the new Peugeot 405 won the "Car Of The Year" title.
The photos were taken in 1985 and remind us that Stouts were also Talbot dealers.

DESPERATE DAN x STEELY DAN - 1974

The sight of 2 well known Dans teaming up together for an advert, cropped up in the national music press in March 1974.
Yes it's Dundee's Desperate Dan carrying an album by U.S.A.'s Steely Dan.
It could be interpreted as Dan stealing the LP, giving it a visual pun (stealy Dan), especially as it may also be a rogue Dan (bolts in the neck?!).
Anyway, it's quite amusing, and I remember buying Pretzel Logic too.
If I incorporate a 3rd Dan onto the scene, Dundee's Danny Wilson, some of you will know that they were somewhat inspired by Steely Dan's music.
In fact, they even released an EP in the late 80's which gave a bit of a nod to Pretzel Logic - cheekily calling it Strepzil Logic!

THE MUSIC OF BOO HOORAY

This rare advert is for a Boo Hooray gig that took place at Laings on 3rd Oct 1981.

I don't think I was at this one but I do recall seeing them live at the Tayside Bar.

The band line-up changed periodically but included the likes of Gerry Mitchell, Neal Mitchell, Scott McKinlay, Scott Gowans, Bob Phillips & Paul Smith.

JT FORBES ADS - 1960's

Some adverts from the mid 60's for JT Forbes in the Nethergate, a shop that sold musical instruments and accessories. The ads here emphasising guitars graphically - acoustic for the folkies and electric for the beat groups.
It was very popular with local musicians and was active throughout all 3 retro decades.

HEADBOYS AD & INTERVIEW - 1979

This full page advert in the music press is from November 1979,  and sees The Headboys album getting an epic promotional push by Our Price record shops in London.

The album went straight in at number 42 in the Our Price chart that week.
Dundee didn't have an Our Price store back then, so any locals interested in the stores offer would have to travel to indulge!

Underneath the ad is an interview with main man, George Boyter.

This was published in a Middlesbrough newspaper in Sep 1979.
