My cousin, drummer John Lunan, was in Third Edition, but I was wondering if the "Norrie" that's listed was the later to be, Dean Eastwood?
Anyway, plenty names in there to spark some memories for some of you no doubt. Band-wise and pub-wise.

And what do we have now? same bands , same pubs , same nights, same songs played at the same times etc etc. PS - why did all clubbie bands have crap names ???? (still do ) you can tell by a bands name in Dundee if they'll----- "dae yir weddin' " ---------- It's a shit business :)
ReplyDeleteCameron Kerr Trio, used to play the Fiddlers at Monikie a lot in the late 70's .....class band, great musicians.
ReplyDeleteRemember them with fondness ! Had them at my wedding 1979
DeleteTayside Bar main man, Brian Sinclair has just revealed in a comment elsewhere today that the first band to play there in his era was Pulsebeat Plus, so Alec Rice & the Melodymakers was definitely way before Brian's time.
ReplyDeleteHmmm, i would totally agree with that, I was at the gig, what happened to the Junkies claim then ?????? mair hype (as per) i take it ?
ReplyDeleteAssuming that "The Good The Bad & The Ugly" were a trio, wonder who the hideously disfigured freak of nature was, named last in line of the three?

ReplyDeleteJim Low ?
Being only 14 in 1972, I was too young to go see these bands live but I remember Third Edition stopped off at our house for a quick cuppa one day before going to a gig, and when they were departing they let me see all their gear packed into the back of their transit.
ReplyDeleteWhat caught my eye was the THIRD EDITION logo painted on the bass drum. The 2 letter "D's" in the wording were each stylised into a kind of Reuleaux triangle shape. Afterwards, I started doing my D's like that at school for a wee while!
Yeah they were a very influential band!!
Then yi did yir "Bubble writin" like Rodger Dean, :) YES , yi did :)
ReplyDeleteHey Les fae Creme Brulee. I loved your album "Just Deserts", and yes it is a shit business.
ReplyDeleteI preferred "Second Helping".
ReplyDeleteNo need to end up bitter & twisted like Les, always remember, it's never too late to be who you might have been!
ReplyDeleteEnjoy yourself, it's later than you think ;)
ReplyDeleteis that voodoo lady from the forum centre watch repair/battery shop?
ReplyDeletecameron kerr trio were well above the cut of your run of the mill clubbie bands and I remember the hotels I worked in they would pull the biggest crowds for dinner dances. chicken in a basket after the prawn cocktail and glasses full of JPS Kingsize man that was what we waiters aspired to live like when we grew up , never quite made it though thanks punk rock ruin my life
disgruntled scampi lover
sorry to hijack the thread, we, the raunchy guys, reinvented ourselves several times as a white hot clubbie band, you may have enjoyed us as ken puffer with tombola wind, sunny twiggs and the goats, the maxine sound or slim disney and the tenessee bears.
ReplyDeleteMy dad, Joe Barton, owned The Broadway Bar from 1961 - 1991. "Norrie" mentioned in the Broadway advert was Norrie Foster. Other acts at The Brodaway about that time included Jimmy Mathers snr & Danny Mitchell.
ReplyDeleteI knew Norrie Maiden (Dean Eastwood) my cousin Morag Ferguson was Dawn Westwood. Dean and Dawn.
