I already have the first & final issue of Cranked Up on Retro, so thought I'd show you the rest of the covers in between. There are too many to put each one up individually, so I've stitched them together and made a wee video with all 18, in numerical order, below.
Thanks to The Major, Craig, Mike, Kevin & DD.
On the cover of the second last edition it's titled 'Dundee doesn't deserve anything this good'
ReplyDeleteThat's a hell of a grudge to carry since '77, Jock.
Was there any reason as to why you felt that way about the city?
He still feels the same way,it's the gadgey culture and the cooncil he doesn't like,no one would subscribe to his dodgey acting, saying that I did see him play a cracking role as a chicken outside the body shop at the Keillor Centre.
ReplyDeleteWell, laughing aside, thats all a bit harsh.
ReplyDeleteThere was NO fanzine in Dundee in the late nineties/early eighties until Jock set it up.
Over a couple of years loads of bands were reviewed and supported in the mag and the Cranked Up disco was genuinely interesting and sympathetic to any group/act that were a wee bit different but not too crazy. The Tayside Bar was often better when Jock was doing a dj night than when many of the bands were on.
Its also thirty years ago. Jock may have a grudge against Dundee - I dont know - but give him the credit that being pissed off he walked to Fife.
Dear Dundonian and Joeshmo, when you go to your grave, I hope that you think that you have done something other than for yourself.
Craig
Well said Craig. Many a good night at the Tayside Bar when Jock was on the Wheels of Steel.

Mike / VEX
P.S. by the end of CU jock was a self indulgent megalomaniac over his fanzine ..but i think he has got over it and moved on, and i mean this in a nice way
