Not a brilliant quality shot but it's the only picture I have of the Dundee Rockets from the period I went to see them play.
Ex Craigie High School pupil, Jim Pennycook, is 2nd from the right in the centre row.

They were absolutely brilliant. Mike Mazur, a Canadian, and Jimmy Spence were the top scorers. My mum knitted me a Dundee Rockets scarf but with the wrong colours - green and orange. There were also some tense England v Scotland ice hockey games too.

I remember them handing out free tickets to school kids, and I lost mine!
ReplyDeleteThey were a great team who had a great (art deco?) home, sadly now the site of a supermarket... I get jealous when I pass the Fife Flyers rink, it's still there in all its glory!
ReplyDeleteThe manager 'Tam/Tom Stewart' had big plans for the rockets...
ReplyDeletemy pal married jim pennycook and until a few years ago, used to see molly reid in ferry pub!
ReplyDeleteJimmy Pennycook - now there's a name from the past. Jimmy was a year behind me at Rockwell Primary and he lived around the corner from my gran, so we chummed around at bit in the mid-1960's.

Was anybody at- or played in- the play offs held at Streatham in 1982?
ReplyDeleteThe Blackpool Seagulls (Rockets semi final opponents) have just reformed as a recreational team and we are looking for stories to go in the match programme.
