THE BEAVER SISTERS

One person who was at the Rocky Horror Picture Show was Jock Ferguson, resplendent in leopard-skin!
Jock, as I'm sure you all know by now, was a member of The Beaver Sisters, Dundee's answer to The Tubes!
Above, you can get an idea of the kind of humour they had, in this witty mock interview, full of double entendres, twisted word play...and even putting the boot into - or should that be digging the stilettos into - Danny Wilson. Ouch..!!
Quite a few members came & went in the band line-up, but the main core of The Beaver Sisters who had the longest run, were - DREW RAMSAY - PETE SILVERS - JOCK FERGUSON - ANTH BROWN - BARRY GIBSON and STEVE HAMILTON.
The band did tons of gigs locally, with their shows in Foreigners being notoriously riotous affairs.
The above line-up were together for around 5 years, but in total, The Beaver Sisters were on the go nearly 7 years - mid 80's to early 90's.

THE FINAL CRANKED UP FANZINE - 1982

In this very last issue of music fanzine, Cranked Up, main man Jock Ferguson reaches the end of his tether and he puts the boot into those he sees as the major factor to blame for the lack of enthusiasm towards the alternative music scene in Dundee. He blasts out at the likes of Radio Tay, big brewers, DC Thomson, the Council and Dundonians in general, and as the cover depicts, renders them all brain dead!!
Even contributors to the mag don't escape his wrath as Scrotum Poles, Craig Methven, who wrote for Cranked Up under the name Fabian Bell, also gets on Jocks hit list!
It's not only Jock having a work-out at the punch bag, another Scrotum Poles member who contributed to C.U, Sid Gripple, has a pop at Billy Mackenzie for being "pretentious" and "nauseous"!!
But once the backlash has settled, here's what we find inside.
Bands who get a mention are - SYNTHETIC DREAMS - THE BLUSH - THE GRIP - PARADES - THE JUNKIES - AAGA - HEY ELASTICA - LITTLE WOLVES.
Places that are mentioned are - I&N - ROCKPILE - BRUCE'S - TAYSIDE BAR - OUTPOST - WINDMILL BAR - THE UNIVERSITY.

CRANKED UP - A DUNDEE FANZINE - 80'S

This is the cover of the very first issue of Dundee music fanzine, Cranked Up. It wasn't the cities first fanzine, with the likes of "Men from Soya" and "Le Sinistre" being very short-lived attempts earlier. Cranked Up, however, kept it going for 18 issues, so they had a good run.
The mag hit the scene in 1981 and managed to capture the start of the "New Wave" bands that were springing up locally, although a variety of other music categories were given plenty fanzine space too.
