The roundabout here is where Forfar Road meets Claverhouse Road and Fountainbleau Drive. Claverhouse / Mill O' Mains to the left and the edge of Fintry on the right. The Dichty burn cuts across the front of both schemes.
From what I can make out on the present day Google Earth view, these 4 hi-rise flats near to the circle don't appear to be there anymore. The most obvious observation though is that there have been more new buildings gone up in the area than have been knocked down. So it'll be a bit busier around this neck of the woods these days.

If you look on Flash Earth (Microsoft Virtual Earth), the two central blocks are still there, but have been demolished since the time the school was knocked down, and construction of Morrison's began. The ground where the other two were looks to still be quite rough, so presumably were demolished not long before the image on Flash Earth was taken.
ReplyDeleteQuick question admin, why do you have so many ariel pictures? did you take them yourself?
ReplyDeleteMy brother took all the air shots and has had them boxed away in his attic since the 70's. It was only last year he uncovered them and so we set about getting them scanned and organised on computer. GG
ReplyDeleteMy Granny lived in Mill o'Mains and i remember when i was wee in late 70s playing in a wooden fort which mustve been a kids playground. It was on the grassy area near the Dighty where the bridge is nowadays. I can see form this photo there's a structure there but i cant quite make it out. Does anyone else remember the wooden fort or is my memory playing tricks? Also remember a play park in the centre of the scheme with a climbing frame made from silver tubing.
ReplyDeleteMy mates auntie used to live in one of those maionettes, the estate was called honeygreen, not sure when they flattened it
ReplyDeleteThose Maisonettes were knocked down not long after the turn of the century, they were a mess mostly empty as i remember, windows smashed graffiti everywhere.
ReplyDeleteMill O'Mains is a rough place these days, but no different from alot of other areas.
This photo really is an oldie, single carriage forfar road, the old claverhouse road, and no fintry drive over the dighty yet.
Amazing picture! I lived in Claverhouse at this time and have been scouring the web for a picture of the old mill which you can see on the left of the picture by the Claverhouse road. I vividly remember driving past it with my dad one Guy Fawkes night in the mid 70s just after vandals had torched it. Difficult to tell but I think the Mill looks burned out in this picture so it may have been taken weeks after that very night as it was demolished soon after the fire.
ReplyDeleteJust have to say a HUGE thank you for bringing some very happy memories of my time living in Dundee in the mid-late 80's and early 90's flooding back.
ReplyDeleteI've been searching EVERYWHERE for a pic of my old home on the Forfar Road for a long time and I'm pleased to say your aerial pic, though earlier than my time biding there, is a great pic and one that clearly shows where I lived. I'll be sure to make sure it's copied and kept in numerous places for safe-keeping, alongside my fond memories.
Not so much a FANTASTIC blog, more like a fantastic memory JOG! ;-)
