SWITCHING THE XMAS LIGHTS ON - 1980'S
Aaaaaahhh..!! Affy bonnie. This looks kind of cosy and quaint now, but this is how they went about switching the christmas lights on in Dundee in the early 80's. Just a bit of a sing-song....no pyrotechnics.
I think I preferred it that way...and with a real tree. Tended to be on a Thursday evening and other than the lights themselves, the only other attraction was a brass band and a chestnut seller.
The days of just taking a dander down to see the lights go on was a far more relaxed and enjoyable event than the commercial crush it is these days.

And you could probably have a wee drink while there too, unlike now.
