LET'S GO BACK

The idea behind Retro Dundee is to take a look back at Dundee, Scotland, during the 1960's - 1970's - 1980's, this being the time period I lived in town.
I have amassed lots of photos & ephemera from this era and will be putting as many as I can on view here. Many images of the city never seen before, covering various subjects like - school, shops, music, fashion, fads, events, pubs, sport, etc.
So if anyone went to school in Dundee in the 60's & 70's, and spent their youth in town during the 70's & 80's, this will bring back a few memories. Should be a good laugh too!!
I'll go set the time-machine for the 60's to get things started...

  1. FUCK ME ! I HAVE BEEN TRAWLING THE NET FOR NOSTALGIA ABOUT DUNDEE FOR YEARS, THEN THIS TURNS UP.
I GREW UP IN DUNDEE IN THE LATE 60S, EARLY 70S, AND SEEING THIS BROUGHT BACK SO MANY MEMORIES.I WENT TO GLEBELANDS SCHOOL AND LEFT TO LIVE IN PERTH IN 1973.
I NOW LIVE IN ESSEX AND STILL REMINISCE ABOUT THE OLD DAYS.

  3. Loving your Blog and eagerly await each new entry.

Something about the Wimpy, Bruce's and the downstairs cafe in Andrew G Kidd's all in Reform Street would be good as would the Cafe Val d'or, Nicoll and Smibberts, the Old Deep Sea and Wallaces Tea Rooms in Castle Street.

My chldhood is puncuated by trips to cafes and tearooms!

    Loving your work...Bridie

  4. Was just sent this link from my sister in Panama. What fun to look at and what fabulous memories this evokes. I boast about my fabulous childhood growing up in Kirkton. A complete mix of country and city life at the time. My first dancing at the "Tufty Club" in the JM, on a Tuesday night if I remember correctly, from the age of 9. You were suppose to be 10 to get in but my big sister told me just to lie if anyone asked my age. The amazing music that was played all over Dundee. Through all the decades and all the genres. I remember when Rokoto were playing in Jersey (I worked there at the time)and had to fly over to London to record TOTP. OH HAPPY DAYS.

  10. Time for another trip back in time. Will try to remember what "real life" used to be like before the last 10 months of lockdowns, furloughs and facemasks ...
