It was called CLiKi. It was the same idea as Lego, using the pimples to join the pieces together, however it came with realistic looking windows, doors that opened, roof tiles and so on. Their other one CLiKi PLUS had cube structures to fit together but also included revolving gears, pullies, wheels etc like Meccano.
It doesn't seem like it managed to compete with the other 2 though.RETRO DUNDEEhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07746839418666784001noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1075437092819379415.post-2832054559675759072010-12-17T04:19:40.187-08:002010-12-17T04:19:40.187-08:00If you've ever knelt on a piece of Lego you...If you've ever knelt on a piece of Lego you'll know true pain.

Sarah ZfukAnonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1075437092819379415.post-52842711630808047192010-12-17T02:51:50.015-08:002010-12-17T02:51:50.015-08:00To me Lego was a step above stickle bricks, never ...To me Lego was a step above stickle bricks, never really seen the point to it. Meccano was the one for me, I seem to remember having an Army set with preformed cabs for the trucks. And no I am not an engineer, yes I have built my own computer but that to me is just pushing things into place, more akin to Lego really.steve mnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1075437092819379415.post-43457487205452799032010-12-17T00:46:37.830-08:002010-12-17T00:46:37.830-08:00Aesthetically, the end result made everything look...Aesthetically, the end result made everything look as if they were sculpted out of Swiss cheese!RETRO DUNDEEhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07746839418666784001noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1075437092819379415.post-9098653254921898982010-12-16T22:10:26.731-08:002010-12-16T22:10:26.731-08:00Sorry but Nerds maybe but Meccano made us the futu...Sorry but Nerds maybe but Meccano made us the future engineers of today.
Lego was the same as the wooden bricks you gave to a 1 year old with a bit of interlocking going on!

Meccano, however was far superior and the thinking child’s toy!!!!

~T.D.~Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1075437092819379415.post-4525719839181237932010-12-16T08:31:19.904-08:002010-12-16T08:31:19.904-08:00I was exactly the same - Meccano is/was the toy eq...I was exactly the same - Meccano is/was the toy equivalent of Marmite.

I could never follow the instructions and, being a bit of a precocious kid, I wanted to be able to build something straight away without much thinking. Unfortunately, there was a bit of thought involved in Meccano (I suppose the intention was to teach kids about mechanics), so Lego was my building tool of choice.

I remember the kids at school who enjoyed playing with Meccano ended up building computers or being very technically minded - nerds, in other words ;-)Anonymousnoreply@blogger.com
