These pictures around Whitfield were taken in March 1986 and should bring back a few memories.
Since then, the Skarne blocks at Aberlady, Haddington and Tranent have all been demolished, as have the multis, and the Dunbar Crescent area is now Dunbar Park.
The good old days or bad old days?
A mate of mine who lived in Whitfield in the 70's was telling me he has a hazy memory of when the all-weather pitch had an inauguration match between DFC v United to officially mark the switching on of the floodlights, which was the first of it's kind back then.
Anyone recall this?

  1. Me and joe reilly used to use his flat as rehersal rooms for Fungicide as there was only one other person in the whole block who was out of it, we'd lined a bedroom with matresses and gave it laldy, my ears are still ringing ; )

  6. I canr believe how deserted the photos are, I used to go there loads in the very early 80's and there were always loads of folks around and kids playing and stuff, even at 3 in the morning! These must have been taken about dawn time huh?

  7. Stoo, I was 21 years old going on 22: do you really think I was up at dawn time? (LOL!) No, it was the middle of a Saturday afternoon and I remember Whitfield being absolutely deserted, except for one gent who called merrily from a window as I walked down from Dunbar to Summerfield Avenue. Oh, the banter!

    3. Hi Tony we left the longhaugh in 1975 due to an illness my father had so unfortunately I wouldn't have been there at that time. Although we did go back occasionally
