BEAUJANGLES ADVERT - 1981

I used to think that when Mr Beaujangles opened in the Wellgate in the late 70's, they vacated their shop in the Overgate. However, as this ad from 1981 proves, both stores were on the go at the same time. Not only that, but they had introduced a 3rd shop in Commercial Street by this time too.
The ad also shows that they had done away with the word "Mr" in their title as a consequence of adding a female clothing range to their stores.

  1. Whoah, I felt a real shiver down my spine when I saw that image!

I used to be dragged into that shop as a kid whenever there was a need to buy school jumpers and the like. This was a hideous experience - trying on ill-fitting clothes when I would have much preferred to run around the Wellgate Market (or "Instores" (?) as I think it was called - correct me if I'm wrong!) or in the ZX Spectrum aisle at John Menzies. I think my maw preferred British Home Stores, though.
