THE OVERGATE - MID 70'S

This photo of the Overgate was taken in the mid 70's. Where the old guys are sitting, Dixons shop would be behind them. Behind the bush above the guy on the right is the Great American Panthouse, a fashion boutique who's shop front design had Stars & Stripes.
The footage of the Overgate below was taken around the same time as the photo - 1974ish.

  1. WOW THATS WEIRD WATCHING THAT VIDEO. I USED TO WORK IN WATSONS TOURS IN THE OVERGATE IN THE MID 80'S AND I CAN STILL REMEMBER VIVIDLY WHAT IT WAS LIKE. GOOD WORK

  2. I worked in Fastframe in the Overgate - just under Watson's Tours!

  3. Another great picture/video showing the concrete bastion that was the old Overgate. As a nipper in the 80s, I knew not to run through the place, as tripping over was a prerequisite for a badly grazed knee and lots of tears. The only thing that cheered me up was a trip to the toy shop a few doors down from What Every Woman Wants...can't remember its name though.

We used to go to the cafe at the top of the steps across from Argos every Saturday for about two years - this is where Starbucks, of all places, sits now.

  4. I can't believe how clean and bright the Overgate looks in the video. Every time I think of it, all I can remember is dirty grey concrete!
